June Mar Fajardo will be out for a while – again.
The San Miguel main man has suffered a metacarpal fracture on his left hand and will be sidelined for 4-6 weeks, according to team manager Gee Abanilla.
“Metacarpal fracture of 4th digit,” the Beermen executive wrote in a short text message to Tiebreaker Times, Thursday evening.
Fajardo got hurt in the third quarter of their eventual 115-110 win over Rain or Shine on Wednesday night at the SMART Araneta Coliseum.
The 34-year-old winced in pain shortly after contesting opposing rookie Adrian Nocum’s layup, though he managed to play through the injury.
His left hand was taped upon checking back into the game early in the fourth, but he left the venue after the match to have it checked.
Fajardo shrugged off the injury in a quick chat with members of the press while on the way out of the venue, but the injury is worse than initially thought.
Plus, it’s a massive hit for an SMB side that’s already dealing with injuries to Terrence Romeo, Jeron Teng, Vic Manuel, and Kyt Jimenez.
The Beermen are currently at no. 3 in the PBA Season 48 Commissioner’s Cup standings with Ginebra and Meralco as all teams sport identical 3-1 records.
Fajardo has been averaging 19.3 points, 11.8 rebounds, and 3.0 blocks.
