Jun Manzo shines as UP whips Huaquiao to go to 2-0

Coming off where they left off against NTSU, the University of the Philippines Fighting Maroons dominated Huaquiao University late to take an 87-72 win, Wednesday afternoon at the Kaohsiung Arena in Taiwan.

The Fighting Maroons once again relied on their defense to stifle their opponents.

Kobe Paras, David Murrell, Javi Gomez de Liano, James Spencer, and Jaybie Mantilla all contributed in UP’s endgame blast.

Paras had 15 points, four rebounds, and three steals in the contest while Gomez de Liano added 11 markers to help give UP its second win in its pool.

Jun Manzo provided the spark for UP, scoring a game-high 22 points in the contest. The Cebuano, who also tallied six assists and two steals, was pivotal when Huaquiao tried to run away from UP.

Bright Akhuetie anchored the defense with 11 points and 14 boards.

UP will next face National Kaohsiung Normal University on Thursday, July 18 at 3:40 pm.

UP scores:
