Tiongson explodes for 32 as AMA spoils Cignal’s debut

Juami Tiongson fired 32 points to lead the league-leading AMA Online Education down Cignal-San Beda, 94-85 Tuesday in the 2017 D-League Aspirants’ Cup at Ynares Sports Arena in Pasig.

The Titans’ lead playmaker had himself going in the fourth, dropping 12 of his game-high production, on a 10-of-16 field goal shooting, six rebounds and three assists.

“Kinausap ko si Juami before the game. Alam namin na malaking bagay ang pagkawala ni Diego (Dario) and I asked him that he has to make the most of his extra minutes,” said coach Mark Herrera, as AMA stayed unbeaten at 2-0. “I’m happy, but I’m not surprised din naman kasi si Juami talaga ang isa sa nagdadala sa team.”

After a 42-point debut, Jeron Teng cooled down, chipping in 16 markers and 15 boards, while PJ Barua had 13 points in the win.

Genmar Bragais also embodied the tireless effort AMA displayed, ending the game with 10 markers and eight rebounds.

Tiongson caught fire and captained the telling 21-6 tear between the third and fourth periods to turn a 61-60 Cignal lead to an 81-67 advantage midway in the fourth.

Davon Potts led the Hawkeyes with 18 points and two rebounds, while Mark Bringas got 14 markers.

Jason Perkins also had 13 points and 10 boards in the defeat.

AMA will play next Tuesday, January 31, against Racal Ceramica at 5:00 PM, while Cignal will face Wang’s Basketball on February 2, Thursday, at 3:00 PM. Both matches will be played at Ynares Sports Arena.
