Jordan Clarkson will complete Gilas Pilipinas’ cast for the 2023 FIBA Basketball World Cup.
Samahang Basketbol ng Pilipinas president Al Panlilio made the announcement of Clarkson’s commitment to the Philippines during the World Cup rally hosted by the federation on Tuesday.
Clarkson joining Gilas for the global meet had been put in doubt last week after Gilas head coach Chot Reyes put a deadline on the arrival of players.
According to a report by SPIN.PH, Clarkson will arrive on August 6 — five days after the deadline.
A compromise was reached by the two camps paving the way for the former NBA Sixth Man of the Year to join Gilas.
Clarkson played two games for Gilas Pilipinas in the Qualifiers, averaging 25.0 points, 6.5 assists, and 5.5 rebounds.
This means that Justin Brownlee will now be relegated as a reserve for the Philippines.
The Philippines is slotted with the Dominican Republic (August 25), Angola (August 27), and Italy (August 29) in the World Cup.
Gilas’ first game will be played at the Philippine Arena while the matches against Angola and Italy will be played at the SMART Araneta Coliseum.
