Joaqui Manuel serves one-game suspension for UF on Kouame

Joaqui Manuel was noticeably absent during De La Salle University’s game against University of Santo Tomas in UAAP Season 84 on Tuesday.

Apparently, the Green Archers left behind the 22-year-old winger in their dorm in Taft Avenue since he was serving a one-game suspension.

“Joaqui is in the dorm. Nagpapahinga,” quipped La Salle head coach Derrick Pumaren drawing giggles from Evan Nelle after their 112-83 whipping of UST.

“He is serving his one-game suspension in today’s game kaya he is in his dorm, kumakain.”

Back on April 12 – during La Salle’s game against Ateneo – officials called the 6-foot-3 Manuel for an unsportsmanlike foul againts 6-foot-11 Angelo Kouame during a box-out situation.

It then resulted in Kouame falling.

After a thorough review by the league’s commissioner’s office, it was deemed that the foul was intentional and it was raised to UF criteria 2. FIBA defines UF C2 as “excessive, hard contact caused by a player in an effort to play the ball or an opponent.

Previously, Manuel got a call-up to the commissioner’s office for a play during La Salle’s game against National University last March 29.

Then on March 31, Manuel received a stern warning after hitting Patrick Sleat of Far Eastern University.

Manuel is averaging 3.5 points, 2.0 rebounds, 1.0 assists, and 1.0 steals this season.
