Joanie Delgaco made sure not to let up this time and won Heat 1 of the repechage races in the Olympic Games Paris 2024 rowing women’s single sculls.
She qualified for the quarterfinals on Sunday at the Nautical Stadium in Île-de-France.
Leading by just split seconds midway through the 2000-meter course, the first Filipina Olympic rower repeated her performance over Vietnam’s Pham Thi Hue.
Delgaco saw Pham Thi Hue beside her in the opposite lane, found new wind, and pulled off a huge 5:50.80 finish, five seconds ahead of the Vietnamese’s 5:55.14.
The 26-year-old Filipino eventually ended with a time of 7:55.00 to take the victory and secure her place in the quarterfinals.
The feat matched that of Cris Nievares in the 2020 Tokyo Games, where he also made it to the quarterfinals.
The quarterfinals are set for Tuesday, July 30, at 3:30 PM.
