Having been with Cignal for five months, JM Ronquillo shared that he is still in the adjustment phase with his new team, especially with the 2024 Spikers’ Turf Invitational Conference still in its early stages.
The prized recruit out of De La Salle University has yet to fully unleash his potential in the HD Spikers’ first three games.
Ronquillo scored nine points in his three-set debut against Chichi DHTSI and added eight points in five frames during their loss to Savouge.
On Wednesday, the 6-foot-3 opposite spiker showcased his capabilities, contributing nine points through five attacks, two blocks, and two aces in just two sets of work during Cignal’s 25-16, 25-16, 25-14 victory against Martelli Meats.
“I know naman na hindi sya magiging madali talaga and this tournament will be long so kailangan namin ng patience and nilo-look forward ko na sana maabot namin yung gusto naming maabot as a team,” Ronquillo mentioned.
Waiting for his time to shine, the highly touted rookie is embracing every opportunity given to him by head coach Dexter Clamor, who has started him in all their games so far.
Ronquillo expressed his satisfaction with his choice of team in the men’s premier league, already feeling at home with Cignal.
“It really feels great to be part of Cignal management and family. Sobrang ganda nung management nila.”
It will be a special first conference for Ronquillo as he gets the chance to face his former team on November 15 when Cignal and De La Salle-EcoOil collide.
Ronquillo was part of the La Salle squad that ruled the 2023 V-League Collegiate Challenge. He also departed the school having been part of the UAAP Final Four in the last two years.
“Masaya rin dahil kahit papano makakalaban ko ulit yung former team ko and masarap rin iyon sa feeling na mage-gauge mo kung ano yung team na inalisan mo, kumbaga kung worth it ba yung pag-alis mo or what?” Ronquillo said.
