Jimmy Alapag has shared his perspective on the Gilas Pilipinas national team program.
“We showed in the World Cup that we can compete in the World Cup. On the other hand , the Asian Games showed there’s still some room for improvement,” Alapag told media.
Improvement is the word officials of Philippine basketball should continue to pounce on and for the Mighty Mouse, it’s a welcome development.
“It means we’re getting there,” added Alapag.
Having new players on the national team is just normal, especially now that several players are done serving Gilas Pilipinas.
Alapag is one of them.
“Just the experience of being with Gilas alone gives you special pleasue. You feel the love not just by our countrymen here but our kababayans abroad,” said Alapag. “They’ve been supporting us wherever we went.”
“I know there will be new faces, but words won’t describe the feeling of serving the national team. You could only describe ot once you put out that jersey and carry the national colors on your chest,” added Alapag.
Alapag refused to comment on the next coach of Gilas, saying the selection committee knows best.
