Jimmy Alapag on current squad: ‘We’re more talented now’

Talent doesn’t guarantee you anything, but without it you don’t have a chance to contend. This philosophy is normally shared by most coaches who want nothing but to handle a team that has enough talent.

Team captain Jimmy Alapag realized how the Tropang Texters have become more talented now compared to last season.

“We lost JD (Jared Dillinger) and Ali Peek last season, but we got players who replaced them this year,” said Alapag.
“But more than replacing these players, I think we added some great pieces during the off season. They’re all talented and that allows us to use different combinations on the court.”

Dillinger became part of the multi-player trade last season which sent the hardworking guard/forward to sister team Meralco.

Peek, on the other hand, retired from the game and went on to pursue a career in broadcasting becoming a panelist in the PBA’s live TV coverage.

The additional talents Alapag was referring to were rookie standouts Kevin Alas, and Matt Ganuelas-Rosser, as well as old reliable Jay Washington.
Alas has been a good understudy for both Alapag and Castro while Ganuelas-Rosser provis stability to the team, particularly on the defensive end.
Familiarity won’t be difficult for these players as they’ve been part of the Gilas Pilipinas cadet team coached by Uichico himself.
