Jho Maraguinot ‘most probably’ foregoing fifth year of eligibility

Jhoana Maraguinot has been a fixture in the Ateneo de Manila University Lady Eagles program for four years. However, Season 80 is most likely her final year of duty for the Blue and White.

The proud Batangueña implied in one of Denden Lazaro’s Instagram stories that Season 80 will be her last.

“Yeah, most probably,” answered Maraguinot when asked by Tiebreaker Times if she will still play next year.

While she’s only played in the UAAP for four years, the open hitter has been in Ateneo for six years, spending the first two on the sidelines.

Bea De Leon, Maraguinot’s fellow senior on the Lady Eagles, says she fully understands her friend’s decision.

“I mean, matagal na siya sa school. At some point talagang mapapagod ka. And you know, I understand where she’s coming from talaga,” De Leon sympathized.

“Four years in the team, I think every athlete would know the fatigue and the sacrifices you make talaga. I understand.”

Season 80 has been tumultuous for the Lady Eagles so far, as they’ve gone 0-2 to start the season after faltering against the Far Eastern University Lady Tamaraws and the National University Lady Bulldogs.

But Maraguinot remains optimistic that they can turn things around in what could be her final year.

“Parang it’s still okay. Because five sets ‘yung both losses namin. In a sense, we didn’t give up pa ‘rin, lumaban pa ‘rin. Kinakapos lang sa dulo.”
