BRT Sumisip Basilan-St. Clare handed newcomers Alberei a harsh 33-point beatdown, 114-81 in the 2019 PBA D-League Foundation Cup Thursday at Paco Arena in Manila.
Jhaps Bautista led the Saints with 21 points and five assists, while Cris Dumapig produced 18 points on a perfect 9-of-9 shooting from the field, on top of three rebounds and an assist.
Malian slotman Mohammed Pare supplied 14 points, 13 rebounds, and four steals in the rout, as Jherald Manacho and Joshua Fontanilla combined for 24.
“Alam naman natin ang kalibre ng St. Clare eh. It’s always a fighting team,” lauded coach Stevenson Tiu. “I’ve been impressed with them even before.”
BRT Sumisip-St. Clare used an 11-3 spurt to swing a slim two-point edge to a commanding 27-17 lead to end the opening frame before erupting 34 big points in the second period to erect a 61-34 halftime lead.
The Saints led by as much as 37 points, 98-61, after a Clarence Tiquia jumper with 6:15 left to play as they cruised to the easy opening day conquest.
Jun Manzo paced the Kings with 18 points on 7-of-13 shooting, on top of four assists, and two steals.
Ivan Villanueva had 16 points and 11 rebounds, as Jason Melano finished with 16 markers and seven boards in the defeat.
