JC Cullar has been one of the leaders for College of Saint Benilde this season.
So far, the 25-year-old guard is averaging 8.4 points, 6.2 assists, and 3.8 rebounds per contest.
But it’s not just his on-court production that is helping the Blazers sit atop the table of the NCAA Season 98 tournament. It’s also his leadership.
According to Cullar, he has found a mentor in none other than Kiefer Ravena, who he met during the off-season.
“I tried to be the best leader I can. I read books, I talk with other leaders,” said Cullar.
“Shoutout to kuya Kiefer Ravena. He trained with us and after that, I got his number and I asked him questions.”
After absorbing their first setback of the season at the hands of Colegio de San Juan de Letran, Cullar made sure to calm the boys down.
“Syempre gusto namin magbounce back after ng last game. Ano lang, buti nag-respond ng positive yung team. Engaged kami and hindi kami nagpaapekto sa last game so learnings lang yung last game,” said Cullar, claiming that they have moved on from their 75-81 loss against the Knights.
In their game against Arellano University, Cullar delivered, tallying 10 points, two rebounds, and seven assists and steering the Blazers to an 84-72 victory.
The Blazers bounced back from their first loss this season last Friday as they are now back in the win column.
And moving forward, he looks to show what he has learned from Ravena.
“He’s great at talking. Kasi like first time siya nag-training samin and parang alam niya kung pano tuturuan yung mga kasama niya. He’s super smart. Super super smart, kahit na first time niya mag-training sa amin, parang isang beses niya lang makita yung ginagawa namin alam na niya. So parang after non parang na-amaze ako,” Cullar shared.
“First time ko siya makita ng live na nakasama ko so after non parang gusto ko matuto talaga sa kanya. And yon, mamaya siguro tinext ko siya.”
