Jarencio out as coach but not with team as Gonzales elevated to head mentor

Was Pido Jarencio booted out of GlobalPort?

“Not true. He will remain with the team on a different capacity as consultant,” said new team manager Bonnie Tan.

According to Tan, Jarencio’s replacement on an interim basis didn’t come from the outside.

The Batang Pier has elevated Eric Gonzales, also an assistant of Jarencio, as head coach for the next two games. Gonzales also served as an assistant coach with different PBA teams, including Purefoods, Coca-Cola, and GlobalPort.

But Gonzales once served as the head coach of the National University Bulldogs when Eric Altamirano was still coaching the national youth team.

The decision of GlobalPort management to make changes comes on the heels of the team’s back-to-back losses. The Batang Pier lost terribly to the San Miguel Beermen a few days ago.

A few months ago, news of Jarencio being replaced circulated, but for now the former UST coach remains on the bench — at least for the next two games.
