For the first time in his stellar 10-year PBA career, Japeth Aguilar is finally a Most Valuable Player.
Sensational all throughout the 2020 PBA Governors’ Cup, the 6-foot-9 native of Sasmuan, Pampanga was crowned as the Finals MVP.
“I’m just grateful for everything. Salamat sa Diyos sa lahat ng biyaya na binigay niya. Also salamat sa pamilya ko, sa teammates ko, at sa Ginebra fans — you guys are amazing,” expressed Aguilar, a five-time PBA champion.
“Salamat sa pagtiyaga niyo sa akin. It’s been a journey.”
Aguilar averaged 17.4 points, 7.4 rebounds, and 4.3 blocks per game in Ginebra’s five-game conquest of arch-rival Meralco.
“Japeth this is for you,” said SMC Sports Director Alfrancis Chua even before Aguilar received the plum.
This is Aguilar’s first individual plum. Previously, he was part of the All-PBA first team twice, second team once, and all-defensive team twice.
Besides the plum, Aguilar will also bring home a Honda PCX150 motorcycle.
