Jancork Cabahug’s stellar performance against University of the Philippines last March 8 ended up as a tryout.
In a report by Jonas Panerio of Sun Star Cebu, the 6-foot-3 forward has transferred from University of Visayas to UP Diliman.
“I am grateful for all these experiences I have had with the team, but an opportunity was presented to me that gave me a chance to play and gain new experiences in a different league, with a different intensity and competitiveness.”
During the bronze medal match between the Lancers and the Fighting Maroons, Cabahug dropped 21 points on an 8-of-14 clip, alongside eight rebounds and three assists to lead the Escandor Cup champions to a 93-63 win.
Cabahug also led UV to the 2018-19 CESAFI championship.
However, with the 2020 season of the Visayan league cancelled due to the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic, Cabahug decided to move.
“UP presented me with the opportunity to represent our country’s top state university, and I am also very comfortable with the coaching staff and the players, since most of them know how to speak bisaya, especially the head coach, Bo Perasol,” said Cabahug.
Cabahug played two years for UV. He will sit out UAAP Season 83, then will have three years of eligibility.
For Perasol, a UP team always needs to have a Cebuano in the team, like Paul Desiderio and Jun Manzo.
“I think it’s just typical of me to have a Cebuano character in each of the teams that I have handled.”
