The coaching careers of Jamike Jarin and Aldin Ayo will forever be intertwined. But Saturday evening, Jarin could finally breathe a sigh of relief.
For the first time in the UAAP, Jarin has finally defeated Ayo, as the National University Bulldogs escaped a late rally by the University of Santo Tomas Growling Tigers, 75-70.
This was Jarin’s first win over Ayo in the UAAP, as the then-DLSU Green Archers head coach swept their regular season series over the last years. Moreover, his last win over Ayo dates back to the second game of the NCAA Season 91 Seniors Basketball Finals – back in October 27, 2015.
Jarin did not see this as a feat, only singing praises for his rival turned friend.
“He’s a very good coach, I don’t see it naman na ganun. We just played in the NCAA and we’re here in the UAAP. He’s a good coach. It’s good to know that you reminded me, so it’s good to know,” expressed Jarin.
Ayo reciprocated by complementing Jarin as well. However, he knows that he and Jarin are on different journeys right now, with Ayo starting a program with UST while Jarin has already implemented his with NU.
“Coach Jamike is a good coach eh at tested na rin siya. You cannot win it all. He has adjusted also dun sa system niya,” he shared.
“Good luck also to coach Aldin, to the Tigers, and to all of the teams here in the UAAP,” closed Jarin.
