Jake Figueroa was formally crowned as the Most Valuable Player of the UAAP Season 82 High School Boys’ Basketball Tournament, Monday at Filoil Flying V Centre.
The ceremony held behind closed doors happened prior to Game Two of the Finals pitting Nazareth School of National University and Far Eastern University-Diliman.
The 6-foot-2, Grade 11 forward averaged 13.2 points, 14.1 rebounds, 3.1 assists, 1.7 steals, and 1.2 blocks per game in the elimination round to tally 73.0 statistical points.
And the native of Pampanga is just glad to have showcased his talents during his rookie year with the Baby Falcons.
“Masaya lang ako kasi rookie pa lang ako, naipapakita ko na ang talento ko sa basketball,” the 17-year-old Figueroa said.
Figueroa led Adamson to a third place finish.
He is the first MVP from the Adamson program since Mark Juruena back in Season 71.
Joining him in the Mythical Team are Ateneo High School’s Josh Lazaro and Lebron Lopez; National University’s Kevin Quiambao; and University of the Philippines Integrated School’s Aldous Torculas.
Lazaro normed 13.3 points, 13.0 boards, 1.9 assists, 1.4 steals, and 1.0 block for 66.73 SPs while Lopez had averages of 16.2 points, 9.6 rebounds, and 2.7 blocks per contest for 66.21 SPs.
Quimbao, who is in his final year for the Bullpups, netted 12.6 points, 9.7 rebounds, 1.9 assists, and 1.4 blocks for 66.14 SPs.
Torculas, on the other hand, posted numbers of 11.6 points, 15.2 rebounds, 3.5 assists, 2.3 steals, and 2.3 blocks per contest for 65.57 SPs.
Jean Canillas of UPIS was the top rookie of the season with 38.64 SPs.
