IM 70.3 Lapu-Lapu gears up for fast race

Set to take place on August 10 at Mactan Newtown in Cebu, the IRONMAN 70.3 Lapu-Lapu is more than just a grueling test of endurance—it’s a vibrant celebration of community, inclusivity, and culture.

One of the marquee pre-race events is the 2GO Reyna Bulakna Run on August 8, which puts a spotlight on local heritage and women’s empowerment.

Inspired by the legendary local heroine Reyna Bulakna, the 5km fun run — open to all genders and ages 5 and up — offers both a symbolic and literal journey of unity and strength. It’s a meaningful opportunity to rally the community through sport.

Youth development also takes center stage with the RLC Residences IRONKIDS on August 9. Designed for children ages 6 to 15, the race includes both swim-run and run-only categories. More than just an event, IRONKIDS aims to foster a love for triathlon while instilling discipline, confidence, and healthy habits — laying a solid foundation for the next generation of Filipino champions.

Meanwhile, newcomers and recreational athletes will have their moment with the Sunrise Sprint, also set for August 10. With a shorter course featuring a 750m swim, 20km bike ride, and 5km run, the event offers an accessible and welcoming entry point into multisport racing — promoting greater inclusivity within the triathlon community.

These companion events transform IRONMAN 70.3 Lapu-Lapu, presented by Megaworld and Mactan Newtown, into more than just a race. It becomes a weekend festival that blends elite competition with grassroots participation and cultural pride.

At the heart of it all is the main event — organized by Sunrise Events, Inc. — featuring the classic IRONMAN 70.3 format: a 1.9km swim, 90km bike, and 21km run across Lapu-Lapu City’s scenic and challenging terrain.

The course is designed to push athletes to their limits while showcasing the area’s natural beauty and modern infrastructure.

The race continues to attract top international talent. Last year, South African Olympic medalist Henri Schoeman and Dutch triathlete Els Visser emerged victorious, reinforcing the event’s status as a magnet for elite global competitors.

This year promises another stacked international field, setting the stage for thrilling battles and emotional triumphs that will mark the next chapter of IRONMAN history in the Philippines.

As Lapu-Lapu City rises as one of the Philippines’ most dynamic urban centers, its partnership with global brands like IRONMAN and Megaworld strengthens its image as a modern, connected, and culturally rich destination.

With every stroke, pedal, and stride, IRONMAN 70.3 Lapu-Lapu builds not only stronger athletes — but a stronger, more globally recognized city.
