Hidilyn Diaz has opted not to take part in the upcoming 2021 World Weightlifting Championships.
The world championships take place from December 7-17 in Tashkent, Uzbekistan.
Inquirer was the first to report on the development.
Just months her golden triumph in the 2020 Tokyo Summer Olympics, Diaz was supposed to immediately head back to training in Malaysia last September.
However, due to numerous commitments, the 30-year-old only returned to training early this month. This, for Team HD, is not enough time to prepare.
It’s the same case for numerous Olympians as well who will not take part in the worlds.
Instead, the country’s young guns will represent the Philippines, headlined by Elreen Ando and Vanessa Sarno.
Also competing are Mary Flor Diaz, Ellen Rose Perez, Margaret Colonia, and Kristel Macrohon for the distaff’s side.
Completing the team are Fernando Agad, John Ceniza, Dave Pacaldo, and John Tabique.
