Hergie Bacyadan failed to advance to the next round of the Olympic Games Paris 2024 women’s boxing 75 kg weight class Round of 16, suffering a unanimous decision defeat against Chinese top seed Li Qian on Wednesday at the North Paris Arena.
With his dreams of making an impressive first Olympic campaign dashed, the 29-year-old pugilist from Kalinga faced a tough opponent from Henan province.
The Filipino pugilist tried to match up with the more seasoned Chinese boxer in the opening round.
However, Li was able to impose her will against the debutant, earning the nod from all five judges.
Bacyadan managed to land decent shots in the second frame, but the two-time Olympic medalist proved equal to the former World Vovinam champion.
Li took a comfortable lead, setting herself up for a strong finish.
The third and final round saw Bacyadan mount a solid fightback, but it proved too late as Li secured the victory with a dominant performance.
Bacyadan will look to build on this experience in his future opportunities to compete for flag and country.
