Round One of the much-anticipated rivalry match between De La Salle University and Ateneo de Manila University in the UAAP Season 87 Collegiate Men’s Basketball Tournament will be a true clash of colors, as the Green Archers take the floor in their dark jerseys.
This comes after DLSU became the first team in the league to exercise a new rule, implemented last season, which allows teams to wear their dark jerseys during games where they are originally assigned to wear light ones.
The move was officially approved by the UAAP Basketball Commissioner’s Office, headed by Xavy Nunag, on Saturday evening.
The game is set to tip off at 6:30 PM tonight at the SM Mall of Asia Arena.
Originally scheduled to wear their light uniforms for this highly anticipated contest, the Green Archers have opted for the darker shade of green.
“Since it’s a La Salle-Ateneo game, we decided to wear our school color[s],” stated second-year head coach Topex Robinson.
All UAAP basketball games air live on free-to-air via One Sports on Wednesdays, Saturdays, and Sundays.
All games, including the high school boys basketball, are broadcasted live exclusively on the UAAP Varsity Channel in high definition and the Pilipinas Live app, including video-on-demand and available globally for UAAP fans.
The new uniform rule, introduced last season, allows any team in the UAAP basketball tournaments to wear their dark jerseys instead of the traditional light ones, provided they receive approval from the Commissioner’s Office.
The Green Archers are the first team to exercise this option.
