Green Archers down to 11 players as Kib Montalbo fractures left thumb

The misfortunes continue to hit the De La Salle University Green Archers.

Just a week after Kiwi student-athlete Taane Samuel was declared out for six to eight weeks, team skipper Kib Montalbo was put in the same predicament as well.

The development was confirmed by Montalbo himself.

And the injury came about due to a freak accident last Sunday during the Green Archers’ game against the UE Red Warriors.

With six minutes left in the opening frame, Justine Baltazar missed a free throws, As the two sides scrambled for the rebound, the ball was backtapped to Montalbo. However, the ball bounced off Montalbo’s thumb.

He still played up until the third quarter before checking out with 3:01 left in the frame.

With this, only 11 players remain in the Green Archers lineup. And they will have to fight on as Montalbo, just like Samuel, is expected to be out for six weeks.

The Bacolod-native averaged 3.7 points, 5.3 assists, 3.0 rebounds, and 1.3 steals in three games.
