GonzaQuis puts on a show as Black Mamba-Army beats Cignal to close PVL elims

BACARRA, ILOCOS NORTE — Black Mamba-Army closed its Premier Volleyball League Open Conference through a four-set win over Cignal, 25-14, 17-25, 25-18, 25-19 at the PCV Socio-Civic and Cultural Center here on Saturday night.

The Lady Troopers finished their campaign at the sixth spot through a 4-5 record.

“We finished on a high note so we have a graceful exit kahit papaano,” said Army head coach Kungfu Reyes.

With the HD Spikers threatening to comeback, Nene Bautista converted a hit to put Army ahead, 23-18, in the fourth set.

Jovelyn Gonzaga then put the Lady Troopers at match-point, but Rachel Daquis kept Cignal alive.

Daquis then committed an attack error which ended the match.

“Siyempre wala namang gusto na dito kami matapos. Lahat kami nag-a-aim na pumasok sa Final Four. Kaya lang, hanggang dito lang muna dahil din sa sitwasyon,” Reyes added.

Gonzaga finished with 14 points and 19 excellent digs, while Royse Tubino added 12 markers in the victory.

Ging Balse-Pabayo also made her mark with nine points. Fhen Emnas had 20 excellent sets to go along with four points.

Army started the opening set through a dominant outing, but Cignal managed to hold off the Lady Troopers for the tie. Tubino and Gonzaga then came through for Army in the third set which gave them the 2-1 lead.

On the other hand, Daquis led Cignal with 13 points. Roselyn Doria added 10.

Ayel Estrañero ended with 29 excellent sets and 21 excellent receptions.

The HD Spikers ended up at the last spot with a 1-8 card.
