Gonzaga urges Cignal to shift to higher gear in drive to semis

Jovelyn Gonzaga and the rest of the Cignal HD Spikers are not easing off the brakes just yet as they head into their crucial match against the Gerflor Defenders in the Premier Volleyball League All-Filipino Conference.

Cignal secured a crucial win over Nxled to bring them closer to the semifinals, but that doesn’t mean they are out of the woods yet. They still have to face the winless Gerflor on December 5 to officially secure their playoff entry.

The HD Spikers could also secure a spot in the semis if Petro Gazz and PLDT lose their remaining games. However, Gonzaga and her squad do not want to leave their fate to chance. They are determined to get the job done and give their all against Gerflor.

“Kailangan namin ipanalo para may baon kaming confidence and yung pride namin pagdating sa susunod, sa semis,” said Gonzaga following Cigna’s victory over Nxled at the Philsports Arena on Saturday.

The HD Spikers, coming off a five-set heartbreak at the hands of Chery Tiggo, crushed the Chameleons in straight sets, 25-17, 25-14, 25-14, upgrading their win-loss slate to 7-3.

Gonzaga mentioned that their loss to the Crossovers — where they led 2-1 before bowing down — ignited a fire in them that powered their bounce-back victory against the also-ran Nxled.

“Mahirap kasi ang lalim nga talaga ng hugot namin from last game. So ang laging na lang reminder ng coaching staff (after ng talo sa Chery Tiggo) is mag-move forward kami kasi may last two remaining games pa kami na napaka importante,” said Gonzaga.

“Ang training talaga namin puspusan talaga, pukpukan which is deserve naman namin. Ang remedy lang talaga doon is sumunod lang talaga sa coaching staff so yun ang ginawa ng team talaga. Sumunod para sa ikabubuti namin, so nakita naman namin sa outcome ng laro namin kung ano yung pinaghirapan namin sa training.”
