SOURCES: Goldwin Monteverde ‘resigns’ from Bulldogs, relieved from Bullpups

Goldwin Monteverde’s stint as head coach of the National University Bulldogs has ended even before it started.

This as the school’s brass has already accepted the resignation of Monteverde last weekend.

According to sources closely monitoring the situation, Monteverde, who has yet to sign a contract with NU, has already resigned from his post as early as the third week of July. Yes, even before the trio of Carl Tamayo, Gerry Abadiano, and Kevin Quiambao committed to other schools.

Chooks-to-Go NBTC no. 2-ranked player Tamayo and no. 16 Abadiano went to University of the Philippines while no. 3 prospect Quiambao committed to play for De La Salle University.

“Coach Gold resigned even before news broke out that Carl, Gerry, and Kevin left NU. The letter was already given to the office of Sir Hans (Sy) last month,” a source who requested anonymity told Tiebreaker Times.

But it’s not just the Bulldogs. He was also removed as Bullpups head coach as the school said that it is going to “revamp its high school boys’ program.”

“The coaching staff was informed last night of this,” added the source.

In his three-year stay with the Bullpups, Monteverde guided the team to an outstanding 45-6 slate (8-2 in the post-season).

He steered the Bullpups to back-to-back UAAP crowns, an unprecedented back-to-back in the NBTC National Finals, and numerous championships in the PSSBC, MMBL, and Palarong Pambansa. Monteverde also led NS-NU to gold in the 2018 and 2019 ASEAN School Games.

It is still unknown who is in the shortlist of National University as head coach for both the Bulldogs and Bullpups.
