It will once again be an uphill climb for Gilas Pilipinas Women when they take on the continent’s best in the 2023 FIBA Women’s Asia Cup.
The continental meet will take place from June 26-July 2 in Sydney, Australia.
The Philippines has been grouped in Group B along with defending champion Japan, powerhouse Australia, and Chinese-Taipei.
On the other bracket are China, Korea, New Zealand, and recently-promoted Lebanon.
Back in 2021, the Philippines escaped relegation to Division B after defeating India, 74-70.
During the group phase of the games in Amman, Gilas Women lost to Australia, 120-56, and to Chinese-Taipei, 93-52.
This time around, the Filipinas will have Jack Animam back while the young guns of the team have also matured.
Moreover, the youth team of Patrick Aquino also has great potential as seen in both the Under-16 and Under-18 tournaments last year.
