Gilas, taekwondo teams break Calambubble camp as per PSC orders

With the NCR and its surrounding provinces put under enhanced community quarantine, the Philippine Sports Commission has ordered the suspension of all national team trainings.

“In this light, all National Sports Associations (NSAs) are hereby advised that all indoor and outdoor training of all national team members within the affected areas are hereby temporarily suspended. The NSAs are encouraged to practice on-line individual training and no group activities shall be conducted,” read the PSC’s statement.

With this, the Samahang Basketbol ng Pilipinas and Philippine Taekwondo Association have been asked to break their respective camps inside the Inspire Sports Academy in Calamba, Laguna.

Since January 16, the Philippine National Taekwondo Team has been in the Calambubble as they prepare for the Olympic Qualifying Tournament.

Members of the team include Kirstie Alora, Pauline Lopez, Kurt Barbosa, Arven Alcantara, Joseph Chua, Samuel Morrison, Jessica Canabal, and Laila Delo.

On the other hand, Gilas Pilipinas opened a new camp in preparation for the Clark window of the 2021 FIBA Asia Cup Qualifiers and OQT last March 15.

Players currently inside are Jordan Heading, William Navarro, Tzaddy Rangel, Jaydee Tungcab, Dave Ildefonso, Dwight Ramos, Justine Baltazar, Chris Koon, Angelo Kouame, Gian Mamuyac, Jason Credo, Troy Mallillin, Geo Chiu, RJ Abarrientos, Carl Tamayo, Kyle Ong, and Lebron Lopez.

Also arriving last Friday were Isaac Go; Matt and Mike Nieto; Rey Suerte; and Jolo Mendoza.

SJ Belangel and Joshua Lazaro had to leave the bubble for personal reasons last week that resulted in the inclusion of Mendoza.

NCR-plus will be under ECQ until Sunday.

“Further, all national training pool members must ensure proper compliance with relevant precautionary measures of the DOH (Department of Health) and IATF (Inter-Agency Task Force for the Management of Emerging Infectious Diseases) issued health and safety protocol at all times,” continued the PSC statement.
