Gilas standout BJ Villarin commits to La Salle

BJ Villarin will not be heading to National University for college.

The 5-foot-6 Gilas mainstay has chosen to commit to De La Salle University.

The team’s management confirmed the development to Tiebreaker Times on Thursday.

Villarin had long been part of the Lady Bullpups program, helping the school win the UAAP 3×3 and NBTC titles.

She also has a wealth of international experience under her belt, playing for Gilas Girls in both the 2022 editions of the FIBA Under-16 and Under-18 Asian Championships.

However, the Lady Bulldogs are stacked in the guard position, leading Villarin to head to Taft Avenue.

The 19-year-old Villarin is a huge coup for Cholo Villanueva’s program, securing a blue-chip recruit that will hasten the rebuild of his team.

La Salle finished UAAP Season 86 with a 7-7 record, missing the Final Four by just one game.

Villarin will be eligible starting Season 87 and will have a full five years with La Salle.
