Gilas Pilipinas Men are now down to just 10 players after CJ Perez suffered an ankle injury during their qualification to the quarterfinals game against Saudi Arabia at King Abdullah Sports City.
Calvin Oftana is already sidelined after reinjuring his right ankle during the Philippines’ game against Iraq last Saturday.
Unfortunately, CJ Perez suffered a similar fate following a freak accident in the second quarter of the match against Saudi Arabia.
With 5:52 remaining in the second quarter, Perez lost his balance while attempting to recover a loose ball.
Saudi Arabia’s Ali Shubayli then collided with him, landing on Perez’s right ankle.
According to Cignal’s Carlo Pamintuan during the broadcast, Perez was taken off the court in a wheelchair for treatment and will not return to the game.
Perez had been averaging 1.5 points, 1.0 rebounds, and 1.0 assists in the two games he played during pool play.
Gilas currently hold a 40-37 lead at halftime.
