Coach Chot’s good problem will finally come to an end on April 28
With high turnouts in the weekly practices of Gilas Pilipinas, almost every member of the National Team pool is showing coach Chot Reyes and his coaching staff why they are worthy of making the final cut. But only 12 will be fielded for the 2017 SEABA Championship, the region’s main qualifier for the 2017 FIBA Asia Championship in August.
“I say this very honestly and sincerely speaking, we don’t have a final 12 yet up to now,” Reyes admitted.
The Southeast Asian Basketball Association, however, has already set a deadline for the final lineup, marking Friday, April 28 as the due date for submission. This date falls in the middle of the 2017 PBA All-Star Week in Lucena City that will see the PBA All-Stars face Gilas.
“The deadline for SEABA is April 28, so that gives us after the games of the All-star, 26 or 28 to make our decision on the Final 12,” Reyes furthered.
And just like last night, the 53-year-old mentor shared that the players’ attendance in the daily practices starting today and their performance during the All-Star Games will play a huge factor in their inclusion.
“Our minds are very open. We’re evaluating every practice, we’ll evaluate how they play in the all-star and the intangibles — those who are absent, those who are coming and participating,” Reyes closed.
