Ernie Gawilan ended his 2020 Paralympic Games campaign with a 10th place finish in the prelims of the men’s 100m backstroke-S7 event, Monday morning at the Tokyo Aquatics Center.
The cut-off for the final though is set at eight athletes.
Gawilan placed last in his heat with a time of 1:21.60.
Topping the preliminaries was Argentinian Pipo Carlomagno, who broke the Paralympic record with a time of 1:09.12.
Gawilan, 30 and a native of Davao, competed in three events in the Games.
Gawilan finished in ninth place during the preliminary heats of the men’s 200-meter individual medley SM7 with a time of 2:50.49 last Friday.
Just yesterday, Gawilan advanced to the final of the 400-meter freestyle S7 event with a time of 4:58.58. However, he clocked in at 4:56.24 to finish in sixth place.
