Far Eastern University-Diliman stayed atop the standings after pulverizing Ateneo High School, 4-0, in the UAAP Season 82 Boys’ Football Tournament, Wednesday at the Rizal Memorial Football Stadium.
The Baby Tamaraws upped its record to league-leading 14 points.
Gerald Estores blew past Ateneo keeper Artuz Cezar at the 89th minute for FEU’s fourth goal, which proved to be the rout’s cherry on top.
“In the first round, we failed to score against Ateneo. Everything was mental then. This time we wanted to show that all our efforts in training are not wasted,” said Baby Tams coach Park Bobae, whose squad battled Ateneo to a scoreless draw in the first round.
Jacob Garciano opened the scoring with a strike from the left flank that found the back of the net at the 18th minute before Karl Absalon made it 2-0 at the 41st minute with a flick.
Garciano then tallied his second goal of the day off a beautiful cross from Stephen Soria at the 49th minute.
“Jacob was supposed to be a starter since first round but he got injured. Now that his fitness is good, I think he can be far better because he has a lot of talent,” Park on Garciano.
Meanwhile, National University-Nazareth School and De La Salle Zobel battled to a scoreless draw.
With the stalemate, the Junior Green Booters and Ateneo are now tied for the third and fourth spots with 7 points each. NU-NS remained at second with 11 points.
With one final chance at the 94th minute, Bullpup Kian Lauriano’s free-kick just outside the box went over the goal.
DLSZ’s Angelo Escario almost broke the scoring column at the 80th minute with a strike from the right-field but it went straight to NU goalie Jhon Betanio.
