Gaining killer instinct is a must for Philips Gold says Vicente

Fielding in a vastly improved roster for the 2015 Philippine Superliga All-Filipino Conference, many expected the Philips Gold Lady Slammers to make a huge splash once they hit the mats. However, the team is now experiencing a rough 0-2 start after bowing down to a couple of straight set losses to the Petron Blaze Spikers and the Shopinas.com Lady Clickers.

“[So far] medyo nag-improve naman [ang team] kaya lang kailangan namin bawasan ang errors [kasi] ang dami,” Philips Gold head coach Francis told Tiebreaker Times when asked about his assessment on the team’s recent play.

Even though the team hasn’t registered a win yet, a lot of positives came out during their first two games as the likes of newcomers Michele Gumabao, Myla Pablo, and this year’s top overall pick Iris Tolenada continuously put pressure on their opponents.

Playing two games so far, Gumabao and Pablo have carried most of the Lady Slammers’ offense while Tolenada kept opponents at bay with her unpredictable setting. Aside from the players mentioned, Philips Gold still has a lot of talented players under its belt with the likes of Desiree Dadang, Melissa Gohing, Leuseht Dawis and Rossan Fajardo on board.

With all that being said, it is very safe to say that Philips Gold is a complete team boasting quality players at every position. However, for them to make the push and bag wins along the way, it all starts by using the sporting world’s most powerful ingredient: the killer instinct.

“Kailangan yung killer instinct nila [present during games],” added Vicente. “[Kailangan din nila] ang never give up attitude kasi [importante] ang seriousness and drive to win. Hindi kasi ganoon kataas [ngayon].”

For their next game, the Lady Slammers now look forward to nab their first win of the season as they exchange blows with the Mane ‘n Tail Lady Stallions tonight, 6:15 pm, at the San Juan Arena.

“We need to win against Mane ‘N Tail since it’s really a must-win [situation for the team],” ended Vicente.
