‘Fraternal’ bond brings Doy Dungo to La Salle

De La Salle University has secured the commitment of University of Santo Tomas standout Doy Dungo.

Although the commitment, first reported by Spin.ph’s Snow Badua, comes as a surprise to some, Dungo’s arrival on Taft Avenue has been a long time in the making.

This is due to a bond between the patriarch of the Dungo clan and one of La Salle’s chief patrons.

Doy’s father and one of the program boosters of the Green Archers belong to the same fraternity.

As young Doy was growing up at San Beda Taytay and, later on, University of Santo Tomas, the two ‘brods’ became close.

And when the prominent figure rose to become a team manager at La Salle, the dream of Doy going to La Salle was starting to come to fruition.

Already spectacular in NCAA Season 98 with the Red Cubs, the 6-foot-3 winger made the leap with the Tiger Cubs.

In his one-and-done stop at UST, he averaged 14.77 points, 8.31 rebounds, 4.23 assists, and 2.85 steals per game, earning himself a spot in the All-UAAP team.

Still a few months away from graduating, Doy, along with his parents, has made their decision — they are studying at and playing for La Salle.

And the decision was rooted in a long-time promise.
