After ending with a 3-11 slate in the UAAP Season 78 Men’s Basketball Tournament campaign, Adamson University have officially hired five-time UAAP champion coach Franz Pumaren as head coach of their men’s basketball team.
Pumaren, who has steered the De La Salle University Green Archers to nine UAAP Finals appearances in 11 years, had been the top choice for the position. Frankie Lim, and interim head coach for Season 77 Mike Fermin, were also considered for the position.
The former district councilor in Quezon City had then moved to the pros to coach the now-defunct Air21 franchise in 2011.
In a report by SPIN.ph, Pumaren’s appointment got the nod following a meeting among school officials, stakeholders, and representatives from team sponsors Akari Akari Lighting & Technology Corporation, Metro Stonerich, and Alliance in Motion Global on Wednesday.
Pumaren has a career 107-34 win-loss record in the UAAP, with 21 wins coming in the UAAP playoffs. On the other hand, the Adamson Soaring Falcons are looking to return to the UAAP Final Four, last gaining a playoff spot in the 75th season of the league.
