Fran Yu will return to Letran with a wealth of experience under his belt.
With Letran’s title defense in the NCAA still shelved, the 23-year-old out of Tondo has been putting on the work to make the most of his spare time.
Last May, Yu suited up for Zamboanga in the inaugural season of the Chooks-to-Go Pilipinas VisMin Super Cup Mindanao Leg.
The NCAA Season 95 Finals MVP then headed north afterward, playing for MTrans Buracai de Laiya – Batangas City and showcased his wares in the Filbasket Subic Championship.
Now, Yu is back in Metro Manila to cap off his tour in the Chooks-to-Go Maharlika Pilipinas Basketball League Invitational with Pasig-Sta. Lucia.
“Ayun nga, magpakundisyon ako kasi ‘pag wala ka sa kundisyon dun ka tatamaan ng injuries kaya hindi talaga ako tumigil,” said Yu, who shrugged off his jitters to finish with 11 points, five assists, and three rebounds in the Realtors’ 90-69 win over Iloilo at the SM Mall of Asia Arena on Monday.
“Whole year ata ako nag bubble e kasi dun sa dalawang nilaruan ko puro bubble so kinundisyon ko talaga yung katawan ko para sa mga big leagues na lalaruan ko.”
During his time in the VisMin Super Cup, the Filbasket, and now the MPBL, the 5-foot-10 floor general played with a bunch of battle-tested veterans in Cardona, Jerwin Gaco, Gabby Espinas, Jeff Viernes, Aaron Aban, Ken Bono, Chito Jaime, Pamboy Raymundo, Rudy Lingganay, and Jeric Teng.
And he looks to carry that experience in the Knights’ two-peat bid in the NCAA which is slated to come back next year.
“Kasi yung mga nakasama ko doon sa tatlong liga na yun hindi basta bastang players e tulad nila kuya Gabby Espinas, Mac Cardona, Jerwin Gaco, mga champion players ng PBA ‘yan e,” bared Yu.
“Siyempre sobrang advantage para sa akin personally kasi makakatulong yung experience na nakuha ko sa three leagues na ‘to lalo ‘pag balik ko sa Letran.”
