“Hulog ng langit.”
That’s how the University of Santo Tomas coaches describe their latest recruit, according to sources.
And that recruit is none other than former Ateneo point guard Forthsky Padrigao.
The embattled floor general is yearning for a second chance after his untimely departure from Katipunan.
The commitment happened during the first week of September.
According to reports, the 21-year-old native of Zamboanga City was the one who went to España, seeking a new home.
UST welcomed him with open arms.
“He has made an effort to prove that he regrets the things he had done and he wants to show how much he’s learned from those mistakes,” said Fr. Rodel Cansancio, OP.
“And UST is there to help him reform his ways, especially since he’s still a young man who needs guidance.”
Padrigao had a stellar two-year run with Ateneo.
Last season, he was named to the Mythical Five after averaging 11.61 points, 4.93 assists, 4.22 rebounds, and 2.22 steals per game.
However, his success on the court did not translate outside of it.
Also during his sophomore year, allegations of sexual abuse were raised against Padrigao.
Though no cases were filed, comments on both social media and on the court were heard by Padrigao and his family.
Now, he will sit out one year, a time to reflect, before getting his redemption come UAAP Seasons 87 and 88.
