Arwind Santos was with the San Miguel Beermen when they faced the Rain or Shine Elasto Painters Friday night in Antipolo City, but the former league MVP wasn’t in his battle gear.
Santos missed the game due to food poisoning, which he said he incurred when he ate Korean food at a restaurant in Eastwood City after their match versus TNT KaTropa last January 27.
“Nag-ano ako, vomit at saka poops ako. Kaya hindi ako nakapaglaro. Nanghina ako. Parang diarrhea ba, ganoon,” bared Santos.
“Pero Wednesday [versus Blackwater Elite], back to action ako.”
The Beermen missed his services badly as they lost, 98-108.
“Sobra [bigat],” Santos rued. “Hindi pa naman huli ang lahat. Kailangan namin mag-regroup. Kasi sobrang ano. ‘Di maganda yung talo. Depensa daw.
“So tignan natin kung maayos natin.”
But it’s not just the loss that made it a rough night for Santos.
With his absence, his streak of playing consecutive games has stopped at 132, which is the seventh longest active streak among players according to the league’s stats chief Fidel Mangonon.
“Oo nga eh. One-hundred, thirty-two games, sabi yata. Wala eh. Ganoon talaga eh.
“Hindi naman natin gusto magkasakit di ba? Eh natapat, nadale tayo noong pagkain,” lamented the 37-year-old. “Ganoon talaga.”
