The Philippine National Volleyball Federation has laid out the foundation for the first-ever Men’s Champions League tournament, Saturday evening.
PNVF President Tats Suzara chaired the meeting held via Zoom, with Secretary General Don Caringal; Vice President Dr. Arnel Hajan; and Board Member Carmela Gamboa, who is also the federation’s Events Council Chairperson, also in attendance.
Spikers’ Turf clubs Cignal, Go for Gold-Air Force, Navy, Instituto Estetico Manila, and PLDT have committed to join the eight-team field that also includes teams from Luzon, Visayas, and Mindanao.
The tournament will take place from September 19-26 in a bubble setup in either Ilocos Norte Centennial Arena in Laoag City or the Bren Guiao Convention Center in San Fernando, Pampanga.
Participation of national team players is still in question, though. They are also competing in the 2021 Asian Men’s Championship, which takes place from September 12-19 in Japan.
“It is also one of the PNVF’s 10-point agendas, which are to serve Filipino families with entertainment through volleyball; and to make volleyball a widely played sport by elevating it through high-performance competition,” said Suzara.
The eight clubs will be divided into two groups.
After the group stages, the teams will be ranked and will figure in a knockout playoff.
Rosters will be revealed on September 1.
