Filoil: Razon game-winner sinks EAC, lifts Perpetual to win no. 1

Jielo Razon nailed a clutch trey, lifting University of Perpetual Help System DALTA to a 66-63 victory over Emilio Aguinaldo College in the 2022 FilOIl EcoOil 15th Preseason Cup’s Group A, Wednesday in San Juan City.

With 0.8 left in the contest, Razon knocked down a booming stepback triple to break the deadlock.

Though the Generals were still able to sue for time, it was not enough to get a shot up as time expired after Kris Gurtiza’s inbound was deflected.

Razon was 0-of-8 from the field prior to nailing the big shot. He also ended up with seven rebounds and seven assists.

“‘Yung mukha tingnan niyo ang kapal nga eh, hindi naman para sa kanya ‘yun eh,” joked Perpetual head coach Myk Saguiguit on Razon.

“Adopted anak ko na ito eh, any given time ibibigay ko sa kanya ‘yun,” he added, reiterating his trust to the gutsy guard.

Down 54-56 in the fourth frame, the Altas unleashed a 9-2 run to take the upper hand, 63-58, but Ralph Robin made five straight points for the Generals to tie the game with 3:04 left.

Marcus Nitura led Perpetual with 17 points and 10 rebounds, while Rey Barcuma added 10 points and five rebounds.

Both Shawn Orgo and Jefher Egan had seven points each as well for the Altas.

Robin led the Generals with 23 points on 8-of-17 shooting from the field, while Gurtiza and Allen Liwag chipped in 12 points apiece with the latter grabbing nine rebounds.

Perpetual (1-1) will next face Adamson University on Wednesday at 1 p.m. EAC (1-1 will then take on Arellano University on Sunday at 11 a.m.
