Filoil: Paranada bros shine as UE fends off Adamson for bounce back win

University of the East fended off Adamson University, taking a 70-63 victory in Group A of the 15th Filoil EcoOil Preseason Cup, Tuesday in San Juan City.

With the win, the Red Warriors raised their record to 3-4 and are tied with the Benilde Blazers in fifth place, while the Soaring Falcons, at 4-2, remained in third place.

With UE clinging to a 13-point lead in the final frame at 56-43, Cedrick Manzano and Jerom Lastismosa tried to steer an Adamson comeback before Ray Allen Torres cut the deficit to 10, 55-65, from the free throw line with 3:56 left.

Nikko Paranada and Torres exchange long-range bombs, but Onzo Lorenzana drive to the basket with 1:30 left and 68-59 advantage sealed the win for the Red Warriors

Kyle Paranada was one of the five double-digit scorers for the Red Warriors, registering 14 markers, seven boards, and eight assists. Onzo Lorenzana had 12 points, six rebounds, and an assist. Meanwhile, Abdul Sawat and Calvin Payawal each had a total of 11 points respectively.

“Ang game plan namin with the Adamson is the same, to give other players a chance to play. Siguro nag step-up yung aking mga… mga coming off-the-bench, mas maganda ang yung naging resulta,” said Red Warriors head coach Jack Santiago.

Jerom Lastismosa and Cedrick Manzano led Adamson University with the latter producing 15 points, nine rebounds, and an assist, and the latter with 14 points, three rebounds, and six assists.

UE (3-4) will look to take on UPHSD (2-3) on August 11 at 3:00 P.M while ADU (4-2) will have a five-day break and will look to bounce back against UP (5-1) on Sunday at 5:00 P.M.
