Filoil: Oczon makes return, powers CSB to 30-point win over EAC

Migs Oczon returned earlier than scheduled for College of Saint Benilde, helping the Blazers pick up a dominant 100-70 win over Emilio Aguinaldo College in the 2022 Filoil Ecooil Preseason Cup, Tuesday in San Juan City.

Oczon, who had to undergo facial surgery after a bad crash during their game against Adamson University last July 23, got 15 points, five rebounds, two steals, an assist, and a block in 17 minutes of action.

“Obviously he’s a big part of our team, a big part of our offense is geared towards him and his skill set. Medyo, I feel bad for him eh, na nasaktan pa siya sa injury niya, tagal tagal na niya nagaantay para makalaro. He stayed with us in the bubble, nag-sacrifice din yan yung last season just waiting for his chance but ito gusto ko siya ipagpahinga, ayaw na niya magpahinga, gusto na maglaro so, he’s playing,” said Blazers head coach Charles Tiu on Oczon’s condition.

“Hopefully di na siya matamaan but it’s good for him to also get reps to get familiar with the team, kasi mahirap din, almost three years hind na siya nakakalaro so its good that he gets these games also,” he added.

Also returning is Prince Carlos, who also suffered injuries during the same game against the Soaring Falcons, tallying 12 points, three assists, and two steals.

Leading by just 10, 41-31, at the 9:50 mark of the third quarter, CSB held EAC without a field goal for almost four minutes to lead by 20, 58-38.

The lead then exploded as high as 31 points, 96-65, when Carlos Sumabat, Patrick Dimayuga, Joshua Cajucom, and Angelo Vanguardia combined in a 9-0 run in the fourth quarter to seal their victory.

The Blazers moved their record to 4-2, still remaining at the fourth spot, while the Generals suffered their second straight loss, falling to 2-3.

Ralph Robin paced the Generals with 13 points, two assists, and two steals. Allen Liwag supplied 12 points, five rebounds, and three steals, while JC Luciano and Mhelmar Bawola registered 11 and 10 points, respectively, with Luciano adding five rebounds and a steal.
