Robi Nayve sunk the game-winner, spoiling Clint Escamis’ Mapua return and lifting College of Saint Benilde to a 77-76 victory in Group A of the 2022 Filoil Ecooil Preseason Cup, Sunday in San Juan City.
With less than five seconds left and the Blazers down 76-75, Nayve converted a jumper to put the green side ahead.
Escamis then had a chance to win the game right at the end but his jumper went off the rim.
Nayve ended up with 11 points built on three treys for the Blazers.
Meanwhile, Escamis, who transferred from University of the East early this month, got five points on 1-of-10 shooting from the field.
St.Benilde hiked its record to 1-1 to tie with University of Perpetual Help Sytem DALTA at fifth, while Mapua remained winless in two games so far.
St. Benilde will take on University of the Philippines on August 3 at 5 p.m. Mapua, on the other hand, will face the skidding University of the East on August 5 at 9 a.m.
