John Lloyd Clemente was crowned as the Most Valuable Player of the 15th FilOil EcoOil Preseason Cup on Saturday in San Juan City.
Clemente was named the MVP right after National University won their finals matchup against Far Eastern University, 56-46
The 6-foot-3 winger got 10 points and two assists in the championship against the Tamaraws.
During the season, Clemente averaged 13.3 points on 44-percent shooting, together with 4.1 rebounds, 1.9 assists, and 1.0 steals per contest.
The National University star was also included in the Mythical team selection. Joining him are three other UAAP stars Carl Tamayo (University of the Philippines), Royce Alforque (Far Eastern University), and Mike Phillips (De La Salle University).
Tamayo led the league in scoring producing 17.8 points, together with 6.9 rebounds and 2.5 assists per game; while Alforque put up 9.4 markers, 4.6 boards, and 3.9 assists per contest
Phillips meanwhile averaged 9.8 markers and 0.8 dimes.
The 6-foot-8 sophomore big man was also named the league’s best defensive player after putting up 9.9 rebounds, 1.2 blocks, and 0.8 steals a game.
Completing the five is College of St. Benilde’s Will Gozum from the NCAA. The former NCAA juniors finals MVP was the second-best scorer in the mythical selection as he produced 13.7 points per game, including 4.8 boards, and 1.8 dimes per game.
All were present to receive their awards except for Tamayo who is still fulfilling his national team duties.
