Abra Solid North is gearing up for its title defense in the MPBL.
The Weavers are set to sign Jake Figueroa and JD Cagulangan once their contracts with their respective KBL clubs expire on May 31.
Both players are included in the Abra Solid North roster submitted to the MPBL while the signings were confirmed by Spin.ph’s Snow Badua.
“I am happy to announce to our kababayans and fans in Abra, Northern Luzon, and across the Philippines that we were able to get these players to sign for the team,” team owner Rep. JB Bernos told Spin.ph.
“It took us weeks to get these players to join us, but the efforts were worth it. Salamat sa mga partners ng team who supported and have been backing us. I have high hopes for this team.”
After UAAP Season 88, where he earned a spot on the Elite Team, Figueroa, a 6-foot-3 forward, signed with Ulsan Hyundai Mobis for the remainder of the 2025–26 KBL season.
However, he has been averaging just 3.5 points and 1.9 rebounds across 14 games.
Caloocan and Isabela Ilagan were also in the mix to sign Figueroa.
Meanwhile, Cagulangan was averaging 7.7 points, 2.1 rebounds, and 3.1 assists with Suwon KT before suffering an ACL tear in the Sonicboom’s game against Wonju DB Promy on January 8.
He is expected to make a full recovery by September — just in time for the tail end of the MPBL elimination round.
The Weavers have also signed DJ Fenner and Kascius Small-Martin. Fenner, a 6-foot-6 forward, has played in multiple European leagues.
Small-Martin, a 6-foot-1 guard, was originally slated for the PBA Season 50 Draft but was unable to complete his requirements.
All four players are expected to enter the PBA Season 51 Draft in January.
