FIBA: Yumul gets back at Filemu as Gilas Women go 2-0 in U18 Asian Championship

Sixty-nine days after suffering heartbreak against Kira-May Filemu in Amman, Kristan Yumul was able to find some sort of vengeance.

With her hot-shooting and Sumayah Sugapong’s breakout game, Gilas Pilipinas Women’s Under-18 squad took a 66-59 win over Samoa to go 2-0 in the FIBA Under-18 Women’s Asian Championship Division B, Tuesday at Koramangala Indoor Stadium in Bangalore.

Yumul got 16 points on five treys to go along with five rebounds, three assists, and a steal. Meanwhile, Sugapong produced 26 points, six rebounds, five assists, and four steals.

Back in June, Filemu and Samoa ended the Division A hopes of Yumul and Gilas Women in the semis of the Under-16 tournament.

The Philippines got solo lead in Group A with a 2-0 slate. Samoa and Thailand are in the middle of the table with 1-1 slates while the Maldives is 0-2.

Gilas will face the Maldives on Wednesday at 4:00 PM. A win will seal the Philippines an outright semis berth.
