FIBA Sec Gen Patrick Baumann passes away at 51


The whole basketball world is mourning as FIBA secretary-general Patrick Baumann passed away due to a heart attack on Sunday afternoon, Manila time, according to various reports.

He was 51.

Baumann was in the 2018 Youth Olympic Games in Buenos Aires, Argentina when he suffered cardiac arrest.

Baumann – a Swiss national and a former player, coach, and referee – is the third secretary-general of the international basketball federation. He assumed office in 2003.

Just this June, Baumann’s contract was extended until 2031.
