FIBA: Gilas Women vent ire on Lebanon, settle for Div B bronze

Coming off its sole loss in the tournament, the Philippine National Women’s Under-16 Basketball Team made sure to end its campaign the right way.

Gilas Women made it rain on Lebanon, picking up a 90-68 win to pick up bronze in the 2022 FIBA Women’s Under-16 Asian Championship-Division B, Thursday at Prince Hamza Sports Hall in Amman, Jordan.

Coming out of the group phase, Gilas Women were the most dominant team in the tournament, defeating Indonesia, Syria, and Samoa by an average margin of 23.67 points.

However, Gilas lost a pivotal semis game to Samoa, 65-94, that dashed their Division A hopes.

Still, the Filipinas made sure to end their campaign the way they started it — dominant.

Gilas broke away in the third frame, limiting the Lebanese to just 11 points in the quarter to turn a seven-point halftime lead into a 67-48 cushion heading into the final frame.

The lead grew to as high as 32 points as everyone from the team stepped up in their swansong.

Co-captains Gabby Ramos and Kristan Yumul led the Philippines with 20 points each.

Naomi Panganiban added 16 points and nine rebounds.

Angelina Bado fired 19 points and five rebounds while Nour Labban had 12 for Lebanon.

Up next for the Philippine youth team is the Under-18 Division B tournament this August.
