FIBA 3×3: Bernardino, Gilas eliminate Jordan, set up do-or-die clash vs Thailand

Gilas Pilipinas 3×3 Women made it rain on Jordan, taking a dominant 21-9 (8:01) win to open their 2022 FIBA 3×3 Asia Cup Qualifying Draw B campaign on Thursday in Singapore.

Despite being shorter compared to Jordan, the Filipinas were crisp on the defensive end, committing no fouls. Moreover, they knocked down a total of five deuces to blow out and eliminate Jordan, who lost to Thailand earlier in the day 16-7.

It was a wire-to-wire win for the Philippines with Afril Bernardino and Khate Castillo leading the way with seven points each. Castillo, a product of La Salle, knocked down two deuces.

Katrina Guytingco also made a good account of herself, finishing with five points built on two deucees.

Behind Bernardino, the Philippines raced to a 10-5 lead.

An 11-4 end-game spurt, capped by a Castillo free throw with 1:59 left sealed the win.

Marya Al Hinn paced Jordan with four points while Zara Najjar added three markers.

Gilas will face Thailand in a win-or-go-home tilt later in the day at 6:50 PM.

The Scores:

Philippines 21 – Bernardino 7, Castillo 7, Guytingco 5, Clarin 2.

Jordan 9 – Hinn 4, Najjar 3, Jbarah 2, Haddad 0.
