FEU Lady Tamaraws baptize Circulo Verde with three-goal rout over Ateneo

In search of their first finals appearance since 2015, the Far Eastern University Lady Tamaraws laid down a marker at the expense of the Ateneo de Manila University Lady Eagles to kickstart its UAAP Season 81 Women’s Football Tournament stint on a high note.

The Lady Tamaraws played a great game on both ends of the pitch to blank the Lady Eagles 3-0, Saturday afternoon, in what was also the first-ever UAAP fixture at the Circulo Verde field in Quezon City.

“It’s a good start nga. Makikita mo yung composure ng team during attacking and defending. It was very organized,” commented FEU coach Let Dimzon.

The Lady Tamaraws raced to a two-goal lead in the first half to give themselves a comfortable separation from the Lady Eagles. Strikes from Joyce Onrubia and Jovelle Sudaria at the 10th and 31st minute respectively to effectively kill the contest.

FEU then tried to add to their lead in the second half. Unfortunately, the Morayta school fluffed its chances time and time again. It took a scramble deep into stoppage time for the Lady Tamaraws to get the icing on the cake and they did so through Marie Lecera who scored off a scramble.

“Yung discipline ng players individually and as a grouo (was important). Although may mga lapses sila, pero nakakabawi sila. Kailangan lang talaga naming tutukan pa kasi we’re playing against other teams,” added Dimzon.

Both teams next play on March 6, 2019, at Circulo Verde. FEU look to continue their winning start against the University of Santo Tomas at 1:00 PM. Afterwards, Ateneo will try to get back on track against the De La Salle University at 3:00 PM.

FEU XI: Acibar, Belluga, Caw-it, Lam, Lecera, Onrubia, Pachejo (C), Pariña (GK), Simoy, Sudaria, Velasco.
